Throughput between your browser and this one server, over this one route. A commercial speed test picks a nearby server from hundreds; a slow result here may mean the path to us is congested rather than your line being slow.
Server capacity is a ceiling
You cannot measure faster than this server's own uplink or what its CPU can push. On a gigabit connection you may simply be measuring us.
Why parallel streams
A single connection on a fast, high-latency link spends the whole test ramping up and under-reports badly. Several at once fill the pipe, which is why every serious test does this.
Latency and jitter matter more
For calls, gaming and interactive work, consistency beats raw throughput. Jitter is the average variation between consecutive round trips — high jitter with good bandwidth still means a bad call.
